Painting on a farm in our district recently, and learning a few lessons in the field!
The karoo sun is not to be trifled with! This played a big role and I definitely need to be better prepared for it next time.

A favourite medium combination, in our group class we used various items about the table and shelves as subjects to observe and practice correct drawing from.

Working from my lap and sitting on a small tripod chair with a bigger streched board to lay everything out on. I try to paint a mixture of techniques in this journal as the paper is not super efficient but still works.

The karoo mountains can provide a range of conditions, mostly they change fast when painting out of doors!
Usually I set out with a timeframe of roughly an hour. If I am lucky I stay longer.

Aberdeen winter snows
These snows are occuring on the Camdeboo to the west, north west in the far distance and the views are spectacularly broad spanning.
Limit yourself to only three values as an excercise in composition and to improve your observation.
